WoH: Mourkain Temple My thoughts.

I was going to add this to my original post, but decided that it should have a post all of it’s own.

Let us talk Mourkain Temple, WoH , and WAR…

Mourkain Temple was the scenario we got to play when we first got a chance to take WoH for a spin.  My art work sucks, but stick with me here so I can give you an idea of how everything played out.

Red = Spawn

Green = Objective

Black = Middle Objective

Now the goal of the scenario was to make it to an objective and cap it (by being within the area of it), and then move to the center and cap it, to begin building up points towards victory.

Now as you can see from the location of the spawn points, that the odds of slamming into an opponent at the very beginning, were pretty solid.  It could be the entire group, or it could be a solo players trying to do their own thing.

Once the outer objective was captured, you moved in for the center objective.  If you have not hit the enemy yet, then you were about to.  Players fight for control of this point, but there is a stipulation that must be taken into consideration.  You had to maintain control of at least 1 outer objective.  Without that objective, you cannot cap the middle.  Realizing that you must maintain control of an outer objective, you cannot just sit in the middle and fight off the enemy thinking you are going to win, if you just hold out.  If you lose your objective you are going to have to go recap an outer objective, and by the time you get the outer recaptured and under your control, you have lost the middle.

It isn’t something as simple as look I got a premade, we stick together and win.  One player can destroy that game play style just by taking control of the objective you were counting on being under your control when you went for the middle.  Don’t get me wrong, I am not saying that team work and premade groups will be useless, I am saying that you will have to adapt and think on the fly without hesitation.  This would be some what of an issue, but manageable in a 6v6, but adding that 3rd group into the mix honestly takes the game to the next level.  This is what will separate the Adonis players, and the scrubs.  Even a small insignificant pug could wreak havoc on premades that cannot adapt and function in a changing environment.

Being proactive, and not reactive is what will allow you to move forward and destroy your opposition.

Avoiding fighting will not work, and solely concentrating on fighting will not work either.  Players needed to find a happy medium, come up with a plan, and move out adjusting their plan as they go, balancing player control and objective control.

Now there are worries about how WoH will affect WAR and vice-versa.  Look at them as 2 separate games that happen to have a pool data that 2 teams of developers can choose from, modify, and implement in both games.  Whether it is modification of a scenario, new art, animations etc, what gets done for one, can be translated into the other.
